A custom QR code can add a few unique features to your cards! We can encode your QR code either as a Virtual Contact, or as a link to a website URL. Try scanning the QR codes below using your smartphone to see the difference!
If used for a Virtual Contact, scanning the QR code would bring up your contact on your customer’s smartphone! Simply send us the contact information, we create the QR code, and when your customers scan your card, your contact will pull up instantly for them to save to their cell phone.
If used for a website URL, then scanning the QR code can take your card users directly to your website, sign up page, or any other site destination, as long as we are provided the correct URL! This URL would need to be specified in your order notes, or in an email to us, so we can create the QR code accordingly.
Virtual Contact QR Code Specifications
Your Virtual Contact QR code can contain the following information: First Name, Last Name, Organization/Company, Phone(Work), Phone(Mobile), Email.
You can provide this information either in the order notes when the Custom QR code item is added to your cart, send over the information in an email, or we can send you a link to fill out a form! If you need additional information in that QR code contact, we are happy to check to see if we can add what you are looking for, but note that the more information you have on that QR code, the larger it needs to be on your cards to scan.
Website URL QR Code Specifications
Your Web URL QR code can link to one website address, which should be provided to us in full when the order is placed, or via email!
How large should a QR Code be?
Your QR code should be large enough that your phone's camera can clearly distinguish the QR code pattern. The smaller the code, the harder it is to see or scan the little dots that make up the QR code.
The best way to test a QR code when you are designing a card is to either print a test QR code to size from your office printer, or to zoom out your design until it's life size on your screen. For example, if you order a 3.5" x 2" business card, make sure the image of your card on screen is 3.5" x 2". If you need to zoom in again just to scan the code, your QR code needs to be larger!
What color can I make my QR code?
We can print your QR code in any color shown in your files! The important thing to keep in mind is contrast. QR codes can only scan if a camera phone can tell that the dots are a different shade than the background. Most QR codes are black and white, but they can generally work with any dark color/light color combination!
This is one reason we may not recommend foil QR codes. Our foil is highly metallic, so it will look dark in one angle and light in other angles. Because of this, a foil QR code may not scan in certain lighting.
Can I change what the QR code scans after printing it?
Unfortunately, it's not possible to change the information encoded into a QR code. Be sure to test scan all QR codes on your proof to confirm that the information or website is accurate.
If the QR code is not working for you, do not approve the proof and reach out to us so we can get any scan issues resolved.
